If you are preparing an application for a Canada-based B3 organization, the deadline is noon Pacific Time on October 20, 2026. Black Ideas Grant 4.0 offers three funding streams, with eligibility and funding limits tied to the intended use.

Match the funding to the work

Choose the stream that fits the costs you need to cover. For the 2026 call, the maximum amounts are:

  • Core: 30,000 Canadian dollars for operations and capacity building unrelated to programs.
  • Catapult: 80,000 Canadian dollars for new programs or services, or expanding existing projects.
  • Community Spaces: 200,000 Canadian dollars for community spaces and facilities.

These are limits, with neither selection nor the maximum payment guaranteed.

Separate mixed costs before choosing

If you have both operating costs and a service expansion in mind, separate those costs before selecting a stream. Compare the operating needs with Core and the service costs with Catapult, then choose one stream. Each organization may submit one application; if several are submitted, only the first completed and submitted application is reviewed for eligibility.

Check the organization and project conditions

Before drafting, confirm that you meet the B3 criteria: Black-mandated, Black-led and Black-serving. Eligible applicants include Canada-based charities and nonprofits. At least two-thirds of leadership, staff and board members must be Black, under each stream's requirements. Individuals and for-profit businesses are excluded.

Unincorporated groups need an eligible incorporated B3 partner when applying and a partnership agreement. Projects must address anti-Black racism or improve social or economic conditions, and connect to the Sustainable Development Goals and living conditions affecting health.

As a next step, read the selected stream's questionnaire and application guide through the official FFBC portal.
