This content applies specifically to South Korea.

Missed South Korea's regular application period for 2025 income? You can still apply by December 1, 2026 (South Korea) if the income, asset and other requirements are met. Late applications carry a 5% reduction, with a separate asset-based reduction where applicable.

Check the limits before estimating a payment

For 2025 income, spouses' combined annual income must be below 22 million won for a single household, 32 million won for a single-earner household, or 44 million won for a dual-earner household. The respective maximum payments before reductions are 1.65 million won, 2.85 million won and 3.3 million won.

These are ceilings, not promised payments. You must also check household members' combined assets as of June 1, 2025: they must be below 240 million won, without subtracting debts. Assets of at least 170 million won and below 240 million won trigger a 50% reduction; the late reduction then applies to the remaining amount.

Use the 2025 credit application guide

The original article on OnBinder brings together household definitions, reduction examples and the Hometax application steps. You can use its document and refund-account checks to prepare before entering information, with references to National Tax Service guidance for confirmation.

Separate the application check from the account check

Before submitting, you can make two separate checks to identify whether an application already exists and whether the refund account can receive a payment:

  • Check the application history for 2025 income, including any automatic application result. A completed half-year application in September 2025 or March 2026 means another application is unnecessary.
  • Check that the refund account is in the applicant's name and currently usable. An old account shown on screen does not confirm either point.

Confirm the income year and exclusions

This route concerns residents with employment, business or religious income in 2025. Determine household composition as of December 31, 2025. Before proceeding, you should check the exclusions covering professional practices, dependent-child status, nationality and certain regular employees. A half-year application for 2026 income cannot replace an application for 2025 income.

What could affect the next step?

Can an application be made without a notice?

Yes, if the income, asset and other requirements are met. Use Hometax's direct-entry application and attach the required proof of income.

Does leaving a job prevent an application?

Current employment status alone does not decide eligibility. Check qualifying income in 2025 and the requirements for that tax year.

Will applying on December 1 mean payment in December?

No December payment is guaranteed. The payment deadline for late applications is within four months of the application date.

Consider logging in to Hometax to check the application history for 2025 income.
